Drink Up! Well, As Long As It’s Tea…

If you’re a guy over 65, you really should be drinking more tea. A lot more.

Researchers at Duke University just published a study that indicates that for men 65 and older, frequent tea drinking reduced the risk of death. 13,000 men and 19,000 women participated in the study and were divided into three groups, depending on their tea-drinking habits: Daily or almost daily, sometimes—meaning 2-4 times per week, and seldom or never.

Men who drank at least 2-4 cups of tea per week had a 19 percent lower risk of dying than men who were in the seldom-or-never group. Those who brewed a pot (and drank it) daily or almost every day were as much as 23 percent less likely to die. For men 85 and over, daily drinking made a big difference, but anything less than that didn’t help.

Interestingly, drinking tea—daily, not at all, or something in between—didn’t affect women’s risk of death at all.
