Easy-to-Follow Advice for Staying Healthy During the Pandemic–and Beyond

We’d like to give a shout out to Surgeon General Jerome Adams, the nation’s doctor, for his easy-to-follow advice on how to stay healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Watch his video here.

Because COVID-19 is spread by respiratory droplets, Adams says, do these three things at a minimum:

  1. Wear face masks in public. “Help spread the word that wearing a cloth face covering is an act of kindness and respect to protect those around you,” Adams says.
  2. Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer.
  3. Watch distance from one another. “If you are meeting, understand that this virus likes to spread from person to person,” he says. “The closer we are to one another, the more likely it is to spread.”

People in at-risk groups should take extra steps to protect themselves, he says. People over age 65, those with compromised immune systems, and those suffering from underlying health conditions are among those at risk.

Adams counsels all of us to take heed of advice from state and local health departments and follow their recommendations.
