Health Treatments That Work for Pets and People

Yous health. Here are just a few treatments and habits that can keep both you and your dog healthy.

Caring for Your Skin

Like humans, dogs can get a variety of skin problems that are irritating and uncomfortable. They can be caused by allergies, parasites, infections and a number of other things. If your canine friend has been licking and scratching more than usual, its best to leave the diagnosis to the professionals.

They may suggest a prescription to treat the problem, but there may be natural options that help as well. If you prefer to use natural remedies for your own skin issues, why not do the same for your dog? There are plenty of options you can try including vitamin E, oatmeal, herbal tea or even a hemp product like Canna-Pet. When allergies are the problem, your dog can take the same over-the-counter antihistamines you use during an allergy attack.

Hygiene is also an important factor. Every day we take showers and wash our hands to keep our skin clean. While your dog may not need a bath each night, they do need proper grooming to prevent skin infections and other related issues. They also need protection from harmful UV rays. Fur provides a natural barrier, but dogs that spend a lot of time outdoors should wear a canine-specific sunscreen to prevent skin cancer.

Staying Physically Active by Walking

More and more medical research is beginning to reveal that you donre walking less and less. Health experts at Harvard and other leading institutes agree this is a serious problem by simply walking more. Walking is one of the best forms of moderate exercise thats less risk of injury, and you still get the health benefits.

Of course, dogs love walking, too. Some dog breeds are more energetic and need plenty of exercise to stay calm indoors. And all dogs get bored sitting at home all day waiting for their owners to get back. But the biggest benefit they get is improved health. A recent study conducted by the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP) found over half of the dogs in the country are obese or overweight.

All it takes is a 30-minute walk five days a week to get healthy and trim both your waistlines. Plus, spending time with your dog on a walk can boost happiness hormones like dopamine.

Eating a Natural Diet

You are what you eat s use human-grade ingredients and keep preservatives out of their dog food recipes. You have to check the labels and ingredients listed on dog food packages just like you would do with your own groceries. Steer clear of dog foods that have: by-products, BHT/BHA, ethoxyquin, propylene glycol, corn syrup and corn meal. Also, just like you, your dogll both see huge health improvements while having fun.
